Travel with my entire family going all around the world and eating a LOT

  2. grace says:

I would do the following in no particular order: buy a house for my parents, a new car each for them, my brother, and me; send my parents on a trip to Europe for as long as they'd like; pay off both mine and my brother's student loans; then go on a trip around the world with my friends.

  3. I would set up animal rescue groups all over the world!

I would take a trip around the world with my husband.

  7. Kristin says:

    I would:

1 – Create a trust fund for my son to make sure he's comfortable, and leave some to my immediate family members and close friends, especially those struggling

2 – Donate to multiple charities

3 – And spend the rest of my life traveling and seeing the world!

  8. Ashley says:

I'd spend the time traveling with my family and planning my estate (where the rest of the money would go).

  9. Yasinisi says:

If I had that kind of money and only 6 months to live I would spend it traveling and doing all the things I can't do now. I would love to see the Grand Canyon, the great Chinese Wall, African sawanna and many other places.. Definitely I would stay on Maledives for a few weeks diving and enjoing the nature..

  10. Lovely Light says:

I would decide on an amount to leave my immediate family members, then create college scholarships for students in the United States and in South Africa. I would take a few vacations, since I have hardly taken any in my life.

  11. Suzanne K says:

I'd start by setting up a trust to take care of my daughter and parents, then I'd go traveling… all the relatives in Germany, then Italy, Greece, England, Ireland, Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, the caribbean, all over the states… and I'd eat really well in each place, regional specialties (sure wouldn't be too worried about my weight!)

  12. Amanda W says:

I would leave it to a charity to do some good in the world.

  13. Heidi K. says:

I would travel the world with my husband. We start out by promptly flying to Spain…

  14. colleen boudreau says:

I would donate most of it and use the rest do have as much fun as i can and give some to my family.

    • YFS says:

Any particular places you would donate it? Why not start your own charity so your exactly goals are accomplished? What kind of fun will you have?

  15. AverageJoe says:

hmmm. I would buy a neverending pile of tacos. With the rest I'd invest in lottery tickets to win even more money! Then again, probably not….

Actually, on the personal side I'd purchase season tickets in the first row at Comerica Park in Detroit and spend the season watching professional baseball and getting fat on hotdogs. I'd need a second home in Detroit, because I don't live there. With the significant remainder I'd set up a foundation to support charter schools. Think "Waiting for Superman" schools.

    • YFS says:

hahah at never ending pile of taco's. I'm definitely in favor of charter schools. Waiting for Superman is an amazing movie! I doubt charter schools get much traction since going against the teachers union is political suicide

  16. domestic diva says:

I would have so much fun giving it all away.

  17. Sandy says:

I would make sure my family was taken care of (including the four-footed ones!) Next I would set up a no-kill animal shelter and then I would take off to see the world!

  18. Mooshu17 says:

I would invest a significant amount in order to make sure that my children (if I had them) had enough money to attend school and get started without financial difficulty and to make sure that my other families members were taken care of as well. Then I would spend the next six months finding random, worthwhile charities and donating the rest of the money to them.

  19. lawren says:

If I had that much money with 6 months to live, I think I'd donate half of it for researching my ailment, however if it's not an ailment that would get me, I'd donate it to some sort of research for a cure to some horrible disease. With the other half, I'd probably just travel the world with the one I love and leave the rest to him. But ultimately, you don't need all that money to enjoy the last 6 months of your life.

    • YFS says:

I sure would put the money to a cure also. I would try to prolong my life. Which disease would you try to cure if you couldn't cure your own?

  20. Pinky Sade says:

Wow! Great question! Well, I'd set up my family for life and make sure they're taken care of. A huge chunk of the money would then go to setting up a charitable foundation in my name. And I'll use the little left over for a nice family vacation.D3

  21. Lauren says:

Pay off all my bills (family and friends), travel, then give the rest to charity.

    • YFS says:

Where would you travel and which particular charities would you donate the money to?

      • Lauren says:

Well I had gotten into this amazing program in Ireland last year (the scenery seems spectacular there as well as I am half Irish and don't know enough about my ethnic family), but due to lack of funds I wasn't able to go. Also Turkey, I've studied a lot of their historical weaving/dyeing techniques and have always wanted to experience that first hand.

As far as charities, the personal ones I believe in are Housing Works in NYC (where I am from), providing funding and housing for people with AIDS. Definitely the local homeless shelters which have really been struggling for funds during this economy and Farm Aid teaching kids to grow their own food. I tend to believe in local, social programs that aren't tied up in black tie events or politics perse, just trying to help people to help themselves and benefit their community.

        Sorry that was super specific!

        • YFS says:

Don't apologize! I wanted this level of specificity. Looks like you put a lot of thought into where you want your money to go! Hmm, I tend to agree with you on larger vs smaller charities. Great job!

  22. I would seek out and fund research projects into sustainable energy for transportation and electricity. That has to be the next big technological push if we are to reduce dependence on polluting energy sources.

Technically, you can leave all your money to your wife and not pay a dime in estate taxes. The unlimited marriage tax deduction has you covered. She will have to pay when she dies of couse. Where would you travel?

  28. Aliya D. says:

If I had 6 months to live and suddenly had a billion dollars:

    1) Donate half immediately to various charities I believe in.

    2) Give enough to family and friends (or open trust funds for those to whom I can't bequeath the money immediately) so that they have opportunities, but still have to work hard at attaining their goals and dreams.

    3) Make arrangements to travel the world.

    Thanks!

I would travel to places relatively untouched by the modern world and modern man… Isolated regions like Antarctica, Mongolia, the depths of the Amazon, Siberia, Namib Desert, high regions of the Himalayas, etc. where the world is at its purest so I can revel in the beauty of perfection (untouched) and the people. Where people get simple joys from eating a meal, sharing time together, forging real bonds and relationships. Being able to see the world in its most beautiful form, natural.

  31. Kristie says:

I would help as many people as possible and try to leave a legacy of giving.

  32. I would spend it on all things I wanted to do, of course. But first I would tithe 10% to my church, set up my children and their families financially for life. ( would need an advisor , but could afford the best) Provide trusts for ASPCA, FEED THE CHILDREN,……

  34. jessica elkins-strop says:

    my family and friends.

  35. Melinda Mendy Dinsmo says:

First I would make sure all my family is taken care of. I would make a donation to the church and the animal shelter. I would help a cousin whose house burned down this morning. Then I would like to go to Montana and see big sky country. I would also like to be in a snowy area of the country for awhile. I would just do a few things on my bucket list. One is to learn to make flakey biscuits. I'd take a class on learning how to do that. :) I really don't know what I would do with that much money. I guess my hubby could spend it after I'm gone. :)

  36. I would ensure that my family (and a few close friends) would be taken care of after I'm gone. I would also give a good amount to my church and a couple of ministries that have impacted me over the years.

With my time, I would try to share the gospel as much as possible, and get closer to my wife!

250 million to complete your bucket list! Woah.. I would definitely be interested in hearing a few of those things :-) . I say go for it on the 1 income household. I’m not sure if you mean reduce expenses to live on 1 income. But, this is how my family currently lives. Best decision we have ever made.

  42. Margaret Smith says:

I would spend as much time with my family, not work and enjoying what time I have left with them. I would also make sure to set up my family, especially my kids with trust funds that would support them for their futures.

  43. Ali Holt says:

Oh wow. Loaded question. Well, I would most definitely travel. Take everyone that I care about and take a few amazing trips. There are too many gorgeous places in this world that I would love to see. Paris. London. Fiji. Australia. Thailand. Dubai. The list goes on. I also would probably take my sisters and close friends shopping to all of those stores in Vegas and New York (that normally I would just walk by and DROOL at the window displays.) This way at least we would look good while we travel. :) Donate to charities. Small charities that don’t have a million people donating every year ( no offense to those larger charities, but smaller charities like Emmetts Fight – for children who swallow button batteries and have life changing problems and many surgeries dealing with problems associated with this.) Donate to my church to help build more churches and temples and help families in need. Buy homes for people living in the woods (there are lots here in NC). Sky Dive. :)

  44. Shannon Baas says:

Go on a trip and give the rest to my family and charities.

  45. Lauren says:

Wow, that would be insane to think about. I guess visit a couple places i love and/or really want to go too. Experience things I’ve never done. Give money to people, or buy them gifts. I like to give to people in general. Make sure my family will have enough to support themselves after I’m gone.

I’m pretty sure if I only had six months to live (and no amount of money would be able to change the prognosis), the money would be the least of my concerns. I would probably distribute it among my friends and family so they could have some time off work so that I could spend some time with them. Maybe a big group vacation. Although I have absolutely no concept of a billion dollars. I feel like one person having that much would crash the economy.

    • YFS says:

There are about 1200 people in the world who are worth 1 billion dollars or more according to Forbes.com. I would say probably 25% of them have 1 billion in cash on hand. The economy wouldn’t crash :-) . But, these people do have the capital to influence government policy so it can suit their best interest.
